Hurricane Ida Response

Hurricane Ida made landfall on Hurricane Katrina’s sixteenth anniversary as a category four hurricane, August 29, 2021. Our Mercy Chefs team, with two mobile kitchens, are serving as many hot, chef-prepared meals, made with love, as possible in the coming days and weeks.

Mercy Chefs was founded in the wake of Hurricane Katrina devastating our Founder & CEO, Chef Gary LeBlanc’s, hometown of New Orleans. Since that day, Mercy Chefs has served millions of meals to those affected by natural disasters and food insecurity nationwide and across the globe. Our mission is to feed people; just go feed people by not only feeding their bodies, but their souls as well.

This is a massive storm that’s affected millions of people. We can’t go unless you send us, and we want to thank you for standing with us for the duration of this deployment. The power grid has failed, and there’s no indication of when complete power restoration will happen. The situation is desperate here, and our entire Mercy Chefs team is committed to doing everything we can to safely provide meals to as many people as possible. We’re serving 15,000 to 20,000 hot meals daily.

With the extreme devastation across the region caused by Hurricane Ida, Mercy Chefs has expanded our distribution model to reach as many people with a hot, chef-prepared meal as possible. We will utilize our centralized location right off of I-10 in Metairie so we can continue getting groceries and supplies to our site from our distributors. This main hub of meal production bolsters our community model, because we need product and man power to maximize our ability to feed more people by distributing meals to churches and organizations across the region. We’re distributing to a dozen locations. If you need meals in your area, follow our Facebook page to stay up-to-date with meal service locations and times.

Thank you for your continued prayers and support as our team is battling these difficult conditions. We’re honored to serve here in Louisiana and to provide hope through the form of a meal in the areas of greatest need. We’re proud to be #FeedingBodyAndSoul and #LouisianaStrong.
