ITINERARY

Once you arrive to Comayagua, our team will provide transportation throughout the trip. Please refer to the itinerary below for more details on scheduled activities, and contact us for any additional information regarding your arrival and accommodations.

Afternoon: Arrive in Comayagua, Honduras

8:00 AM: Breakfast at hotel

10:00 AM: Visit the Comayagua Community Kitchen

12:00 PM: Lunch at the Community Kitchen 

1:00 PM: Grocery distribution to the local communities

2:00 PM: Break—Return to hotel

3:30 PM: Tour of Downtown Comayagua

5:00 PM: Free time

6:00 PM: Dinner at Ricardo’s in downtown

8:00 PM: Return to hotel

11:00 AM: Coffee tour at Comsa

3:00 PM: Return to Comayagua

9:00 AM: Depart for Siguatepeque

10:00 AM: Grocery distribution to the local community

1:00 PM: Caves Taulabé

The Taulabe Caves are a system of caves very recognized nationally and internationally for their impressive beauty and natural and archaeological wealth. That is why they have been named the Natural Monument of Honduras and were chosen as one of the 30 wonders of the country.

3:00 PM: Pulhapanzak Falls

Pulhapanzak Waterfalls, in addition to being one of the most visited tourist sites for having the most famous, beautiful, and largest waterfall in Honduras, is also a site of great cultural and archaeological importance. Activities include ziplining, swimming, tubing, and visiting caves.

4:00 PM: Return to Comayagua

7:30 PM: Closing Dinner at hotel

1What are the dates of the trip?

The trip will take place from Tuesday, May 21 to Saturday, May 25.

2Where in Honduras will we be visiting?

3What airport should I travel to?

We will fly into and out of the airport in Comayagua (airport code: XPL).

4What time of day should I fly in/out?
  • Arrival in the afternoon on Tuesday, May 21.
  • Departure in the afternoon on Saturday, May 25.
5How will I get from the airport to the hotel?

We will have Mercy Chefs staff on-site at the airport, ready to greet you upon your arrival, just past baggage claim and customs.

6Will my cell phone work in the country?

We recommend contacting your service provider before arrival to ensure the continuation of your cell service. Sometimes, this is simply a change in your settings or a small additional fee.

7How physically fit do I need to be to attend?

Moderate activity level. We will be walking daily.

8What are accommodations like?

A smaller, boutique hotel has been pre-vetted, safe, secure, and WiFi available.

9Will we be serving anyone?

Yes, there will be service projects daily. Please refer to the linked itinerary for additional details.

10What safety precautions are in place for the trip?

The hotel is secure, however, please leave the majority of your valuables at home.

11How much does this cost? Are there any expected out-of-pocket costs for donors attending?

Attendees only need to arrive in the country. All other expenses are covered by Mercy Chefs.

12What will the weather typically be like in May?

May air temperatures range from an average of 91°F during the day to 70°F at night. There is also the potential for rain in May. There are six days of rain on average in May, where rainfall is 3.34 inches.

13Are there any specific customs I should be aware of?

Conservative, comfortable attire is recommended. We do not want to draw attention to ourselves.

14What are the typical meals there?

Customary Latin American cuisine will be enjoyed.

15What vaccinations are required?

16What do I need to bring/pack?

It is recommended that you bring conservative, comfortable clothing for your time in Honduras. Since we will be walking daily, please wear comfortable, closed-toed shoes for our outings. You may also want to bring a small backpack to take on our daily excursions, including hand sanitizer, tissues, a change of clothing, a light rain jacket or poncho, etc. Please see our packing list here.
