Mercy Chefs Launches “Feed 757” to Fight Summer Hunger Across Hampton Roads

PORTSMOUTH, VA — As part of its nationwide summer feeding program, Mercy Chefs is launching Feed 757, a regional initiative to combat food insecurity for children across Hampton Roads.

From June 25 to August 6, Mercy Chefs will host weekly food distribution events every Wednesday from 5:00 to 6:00 pm, partnering with public schools across the 757. At each event, 300 backpacks will be distributed, each filled with shelf-stable, nutritious meals, water bottles, and easy recipe cards.

In total, more than 3,300 backpacks will be distributed to children who might otherwise go without meals during the summer months. The initiative kicks off June 25 at Hodges Manor Elementary School in Portsmouth, VA, with additional events planned in:

  • July 2—Diamond Springs Elementary School, Virginia Beach
  • July 9—Bay View Elementary School, Norfolk
  • July 16—Florence Bowser Elementary School, Suffolk
  • July 23—Lutrelle F. Palmer Elementary School, Newport News
  • July 30—Portlock Primary School, Chesapeake

To wrap up the summer, Feed 757 will conclude with a special community block party on August 6 in Portsmouth from 5:00 to 6:00 pm (or until supplies last)—a celebration of hope and the power of coming together to care for local families and neighbors.

Help Us Feed 757

Feed 757 is just one part of Mercy Chefs’ broader summer feeding efforts across the country, but it reflects the heart of the nonprofit’s mission: to feed body and soul wherever there is need, including right here at home. With your support, Mercy Chefs can continue to reach families across the 757 and ensure no child is left hungry while school is out.
