Mercy Chefs Serving Meals in Texas as Flash Flooding Strikes Region
Relief teams are already serving meals to firefighters and first responders conducting water rescues; the organization’s year-round presence in Kerrville, Texas, enables this immediate response.
PORTSMOUTH, VA – Mercy Chefs, a national disaster relief organization that provides chef-prepared meals in the wake of natural disasters and emergencies, has deployed in response to renewed flash flooding across the Texas Hill Country, including Kerr County and communities west of San Antonio in the Hondo and Uvalde areas. Heavy rainfall has triggered dangerous flash flooding, prompting swift water rescues, road closures and new evacuations across the region.
“We’ve been serving in Texas for over a year now, and because we’re already here, we were able to begin serving meals immediately,” said Gary LeBlanc, founder and CEO of Mercy Chefs. “Two of our own team members woke up to floodwater in their homes this morning in Kerr County, yet they’re still helping us care for their neighbors. That’s the heart of Mercy Chefs. We know Texans are resilient, and we’re here to feed body and soul as long as we’re needed.”
Meals began going out yesterday afternoon to feed first responders and members of out-of-state task forces who have been working around the clock performing water rescues. As rescue operations continue and additional rainfall remains possible, Mercy Chefs is prepared to expand meal service wherever needs arise.
Relief team members are on the ground now, and the organization is coordinating its response from the Beacon of Hope Kitchen in Kerrville, with a mobile kitchen already staged in the region and ready to expand operations as needs develop.
Mercy Chefs is uniquely positioned to respond quickly. The organization deployed to the Texas Hill Country following the deadly flooding of the Guadalupe River in July 2025 and has maintained a presence in the community ever since. Now, just over a year later, many of the same communities are facing dangerous flooding once again.
