Brazil Flooding Response

Devastating floods in the state of Rio Grande do Sul, Brazil, have claimed over 100 lives, displaced over half a million people, destroyed hundreds of thousands of homes, and sparked a desperate search for food and shelter among survivors. Ongoing rains have hindered rescue efforts, with many still awaiting evacuation from flooded homes. An estimated 446 of 497 cities in Rio Grande do Sul were impacted, with the majority of the population suffering concentrated damage in Porto Alegre. These torrential rains have led to the largest natural disaster in Brazil’s history.

Our Mercy Chefs Global team has been on the ground in Porto Alegre for several days assessing the need. We are working with Brasa Church to equip a fully functioning kitchen and begin food operations. Our team is prepared to serve the people of Brazil in the long term as they recover from the floods. Please continue to join us in prayer for those who have lost their homes and loved ones. To stay up-to-date on our disaster response and how you can help, follow us on social media (@MercyChefs).
