When floods devastated Kerrville, TX, lives were changed in an instant. Today, the hurt and hunger remain. Just as we learned after Hurricane Helene in Black Mountain, NC, recovery requires long-term care. Through our Beacon of Hope Kitchens in Texas and North Carolina, your sponsorship ensures that survivors will continue to receive meals, comfort, and hope throughout the long-term recovery process.

$50,000 provides a month of hot meals

When the floods struck Kerrville, the damage was devastating. The need for hot food for victims, first responders, and volunteers was overwhelming. One man, Tim, refused to wait on the sidelines. Long before we were on the ground, he was already caring for neighbors, showing up with empathy and standing beside those who had lost so much.

When Mercy Chefs arrived the day after the flood, Tim was waiting. He welcomed us, introduced us to community leaders, offered local insight on needs, and even volunteered himself. In a moment of tears, he shared that he had longed for the opportunity to serve. That longing became action. With his help, what started as emergency relief transformed into a lasting Beacon of Hope Kitchen.

Tim carried the heart of Mercy Chefs—compassion in action and love expressed through food. That heart led him to join Mercy Chefs and to continue the work of long-term care in his community through our Beacon of Hope in Kerrville.

As Tim said best: “It started with a meal and ended with Jesus.”
