Hurricane Beryl Response
Beryl Updates
In late June, Hurricane Beryl made history as the largest storm to hit the Atlantic Ocean early in the hurricane season. Violent winds struck the Windward Islands, causing what news outlets are calling “Armageddon-like” devastation across the Caribbean. Beryl then made landfall in Texas, causing extensive damage and leaving over two million customers without power. Coupled with a heat index of 105 degrees, this created a critical health situation. Deploying to Houston, TX
Our domestic disaster team partnered with Hope City Church to support hard-hit communities in Houston. We served nearly 100,000 meals to over 100 locations, including shelters, schools, and senior centers. Though it was heartbreaking to return to Texas just two months after windstorms struck Houston and Dallas, we were honored to serve those in need.
Bringing Relief to Grenada
On July 5, Mercy Chefs Global mobilized a team to Grenada, where the island’s electrical infrastructure, buildings, and agriculture were wiped out. With our local church partners, we established operations at a kitchen on the island of Carriacou to provide over 4,000 hot meals and vital groceries to families in the Caribbean.
