Working alongside a local church and state partners, we met immediate needs in rural communities where access to food and essential resources was limited. Celebrating the Fourth of July
On the Fourth of July, the community came together for a special celebration. Families gathered to share a meal, enjoy music, and experience a few hours of joy in the midst of recovery. For many, it was a much-needed opportunity to reconnect with neighbors.
Our team on the ground served BBQ pork, cowboy beans, coleslaw, slider buns, and homemade s’mores cake. Moments like these remind us that sharing a meal can bring strength and joy, even in dark times. Mercy Chefs remains committed to caring for our neighbors in Simmesport. Hope You Can Hear
Recovery efforts continue as trucks and tractors clear debris and volunteers work to muck out flooded homes. Mercy Chefs is partnering with local organizations to deliver hot, chef-prepared meals for those affected by the floods. One of our chefs shared, “You can hear the hope in people’s voices. It’s tangible in the air.”

Answering the Call in Simmesport
When Louisiana’s Feeding Task Force called on Mercy Chefs to support the town of Simmesport, we answered. Neighbors had been caring for one another since the flooding, but were running out of resources and energy. Anita, a resident who spent the past week coordinating meals before returning to her full-time job, said that hearing Mercy Chefs was on the way felt like “someone had lifted a house off my shoulders.”
Working alongside our local church partner, we are using our Strike Kitchen to prepare meals for flood victims, volunteer cleanup crews, first responders, and sanitation workers. We are honored to help serve this resilient community as recovery continues.
