Michigan Blizzard Response

An emergency crew works to restore power lines in snowy Michigan

Blizzard Relief Updates

On March 13–17, 2026, a historic blizzard blanketed Michigan’s Lower Peninsula with heavy snow, leaving many without power as they navigated dangerous, freezing temperatures. With limited access to food, the situation remains critical for those impacted. Mercy Chefs was on the ground in Roscommon County, serving families, seniors, and emergency crews in urgent need of hot meals.

Please continue to pray for those affected by this storm. Follow us on Facebook and Instagram (@MercyChefs) for more updates on our relief efforts.

You Helped Us Show Up

Many families in Roscommon never expected to be without power for days after the storm. As food spoiled in refrigerators and freezing temperatures lingered, people were left searching for warmth and safe meals.

At 94 years old, Dan—known as “Danny Boy” in his community—was forced to leave his home when conditions became too cold to endure, and found shelter at a local boys’ camp. Because of you, Dan, along with so many others, were met with hot, comforting meals. “Oh, that first meal was so good,” Dan shared. “And not only did I eat it, I asked to take one home.”

We’re deeply grateful for every supporter and volunteer who made this response possible. Dan also told us how much he’ll miss these daily meals, some of the best he’s ever had.

"You Couldn't Ask for Anything Better"

The blizzard in Roscommon did more than knock out power; it also disrupted running water and wells, cutting off a critical resource for many families. For Madeline, or “Maddie” as her neighbors know her, it meant stepping up to support those around her in any way she could. “I believe having a hot meal—it just warms your heart, it warms your soul, warms your tummy. You couldn’t ask for anything better,” she shared.

Maddie has been a steady source of care and connection for her neighbors during a difficult week. As families continue to recover, your generosity is making this kind of warmth possible when it’s needed most.

Reaching Those Hit Hardest

While power is nearly restored in town, thousands in surrounding communities, including Alcona County, remain without electricity. Snow and ice have left many, especially elderly residents, unable to leave their homes. Your support is helping deliver hot, nutritious meals directly to adult day care centers, warming shelters, local firehouses, sheriff’s offices, and linemen.

Miss Deborah, who relies on oxygen supply, is one of many you’ve impacted. After losing power twice—first in the blizzard, then when a tree fell on her home—she’s found comfort in the meals served at her church as she navigates what’s next. A warm meal, a kind smile, and a sense of relief can’t be overstated. Thanks to our supporters, we’ll continue to serve those still facing the blizzard’s aftermath.

First Meals in Roscommon

Tonight, Mercy Chefs served the first meals in Roscommon County, MI. Despite a freezing start, the sun helped make conditions safer as we provided Italian pasta, fresh salad, and garlic bread to the community. We welcomed local residents to share meals on-site and delivered food across the county line to homebound neighbors, a senior day center, linemen, and first responders.

It was a meaningful day of connection and service, with volunteers from our church partner and a local treatment center coming together to give back. We are grateful for our partnerships and remain committed to supporting this largely elderly community as they recover from power outages and limited food access. Join us in reaching those who need it most.
