HELP PUERTO RICO RECOVER

THE AFTERMATH OF HURRICANE MARIA

The island of Puerto Rico sustained a devastating blow this past summer when Category 5, Hurricane Maria made landfall. One hundred percent of the power grid was knocked out and eighty percent of communication towers downed. Unlike other locations in the United States, Puerto Rico is still facing the extreme challenges months later. Many are still without power, others don’t yet have a tarp to replace their roof. There simply isn’t enough being done to help these storm victims recover.

SOLAR: A LONG TERM SOLUTION

Thanks to the generosity of a Virginia based company Mercy Chefs has the exciting opportunity to give a long-term power source to forty families in Puerto Rico! We have been given 200 solar panels free of charge. Now, we must purchase the necessary supplies for installation, identify, which residents have the greatest need, and coordinate volunteer construction crews to complete the forty solar installs.

POWER A HOME

You can help in two ways. You can make a contribution to help us power a home. Each installation will cost $2,000. You can help us reach our goal of $80,000 by making your best gift today. We also need leaders, who will volunteer to organize a volunteer construction crew from their church, workplace, or ministry to come and assist Mercy Chefs in installations on the island this summer.

OUR COMMITMENT

Mercy Chefs is committed to working with our partners to help Puerto Rico achieve a full recovery. Through the generosity of many of Mercy Chefs’ friends and supporters, we have been able to prepare and serve thousands of emergency meals on the island. We have also helped build and equip volunteer housing and three community kitchens, while donating water-filtration units, generators and other relief aid to those in need, but there is still so much more to do. Please join us in providing a this long term power solution for forty families by making your contribution of any amount above.
