Feeding Program Updates

On June 24, 2026, Venezuela was struck by twin powerful earthquakes measuring 7.2 and 7.5 in magnitude, causing widespread devastation and prompting a state of emergency. The death toll continues to climb, and tens of thousands remain missing.

Since 2023, Mercy Chefs has established five feeding operations across Venezuela, including three in the impacted areas. Our Global team is on the ground, delivering meals alongside our local partners to displaced families and rescue teams. As the need grows, your support helps us bring strength and comfort to those grappling with loss and uncertainty.

Care & Stength for the Rescuers

Everth’s rescue team was among the first to arrive in La Guaira following the devastating earthquakes. For more than two weeks, they have worked tirelessly, searching through rubble for survivors, navigating unstable structures, and helping bring closure to families facing unimaginable loss.

“As long as you’ve got a full stomach,” Everth shared, “those guys are going to work like oxen, always, to get the job done.” We’re honored to stand behind and feed the heroes on the front lines working around the clock to help the people of Venezuela.

Fueling Hereos on the Front Lines

Food is scarce, hospitals are overwhelmed, and thousands are sleeping on the streets or in sprawling tent “cities.” Chef Gary LeBlanc provides an update from La Guiara, the epicenter of the destruction.

Amid devastation, Mercy Chefs has the honor of serving meals to emergency crews, including U.S. search-and-rescue teams, who have been surviving on protein bars, MREs, and whatever else they can find. These meals are providing critical strength. As response efforts continue, your support helps ensure first responders have the fuel they need as they tirelessly continue to help those in desperate need.

Meeting the Growing Need

Everywhere we turn, we find another family waiting for a meal. As the need continues to grow, so do our relief efforts. Our Global response team is working alongside partners to equip a school kitchen that is now sheltering up to 2,000 displaced families and will allow us to increase meal production for earthquake survivors and first responders significantly.

In moments like these, a hot meal can provide hope amid uncertainty and fear, and your gift today helps make it possible to serve meals to families who have lost everything.

Team Arrives on the Ground

Our response team received clearance to enter Venezuela and has safely arrived on the ground to begin serving families impacted by the devastating earthquakes. Even as needs remain overwhelming—especially in communities still without power, clean water, or access to hot meals—our team is working side by side with local partners to expand operations and rapidly increase meal production.

Thank you for your continued prayers and support as we reach thousands more people in need with hot, chef-prepared meals across Venezuela.

Camila and Mercy Chefs Global partners preparing meals in Venezuela

She Survived, Then Chose to Serve

When the three-story hotel where Camila was staying with her sports team in La Guiara collapsed, she somehow escaped the rubble unharmed and helped rescue her coach. Camila described the destruction around her as looking like “the world had ended.” Just days later, she served hot meals alongside Mercy Chefs’ partners to families affected by the earthquakes. Her courage is a powerful reminder that even in the darkest moments, compassion can move people to care for others.

Thousands of survivors and rescue crews in Venezuela are counting on hot meals each day. Will you help provide hope, one meal at a time, to those facing the overwhelming aftermath of this disaster?

Somos las manos y pies de Jesús

Three days after the earthquakes, Mercy Chefs’ partners continue to provide hot meals to families across hard-hit areas. During one distribution, a woman shared that she and her family hadn’t slept since the disaster struck, as they searched for missing loved ones. Moments like these remind us that a warm meal offers rest and reassurance.

Our partners are working long hours to reach communities in desperate need, often finishing late before rising early to cook and serve again. Your generosity empowers our dedicated team to be las manos y pies de Jesús—the hands and feet of Jesus.

First Meals Amid Continued Rescue Efforts

Our partners are serving hot meals in Caracas, where families are facing unimaginable heartbreak and loss in the aftermath of the devastating earthquakes. Across the hardest-hit communities, people remain without electricity, running water, and reliable communication as search-and-rescue efforts continue and thousands await news of missing loved ones.

Mercy Chefs is preparing to deploy additional team members and resources to support our partners on the ground as the need grows by the hour. Together, with your support, we can bring hope in the form of a hot meal.

Supporting Communities Near the Epicenter

Two earthquakes, the most significant to hit Venezuela in over a century, have damaged critical infrastructure. Early reports indicate a rising death toll, more than 1,500 injured, and tens of thousands of people displaced. As search-and-rescue efforts continue and families face uncertainty, three of our five long-standing feeding partners in the hardest-hit region have begun serving hot meals to those in need.

Mercy Chefs is preparing for a larger-scale response, supporting partners on the ground in these critical early hours while also securing visas and additional resources. Your continued support is essential to meeting urgent and expanding needs in the days ahead.
