Wildfire Relief Updates
Three wildfires erupted across Spokane, Washington, burning more than 10,000 acres and severely damaging over 900 structures and roads. The fires spread rapidly through local communities, forcing approximately 64,000 people to evacuate their homes.
Mercy Chefs brought hope in the form of hot, chef-prepared meals to communities in the Nine Mile Falls area. We are deeply grateful to the partners and supporters who stood alongside us to help feed these families as they navigate the uncertainty, loss, and challenges left in the wake of the wildfires.

A Hot Meal & A Moment to Heal
“Are we gonna be able to do the things we normally do?” This question captured the uncertainty many families faced as wildfires disrupted their lives overnight. Homes and family heirlooms were gone.
Even after Nine Mile Falls was cut off from the community when the road burned, we witnessed neighbors caring for one another and finding hope in the simplest gestures—like sharing a hot meal. From the moment we arrived, we were moved by the outpouring of care.
It has been an honor to provide meals for students impacted by the wildfires through Project:Camp and to come alongside families in the midst of loss. These opportunities to gather and serve become small but meaningful moments of healing.

It's Not All Lost—There's a Glimmer of Hope
When wildfires moved through Nine Mile Falls, families only had minutes to decide what to take and what to leave. As Pastor Wayne shared, “When you are told you have minutes to grab what you need…and you may or may not be coming back…all of a sudden, what’s important becomes pretty clear.”
Now, as families begin to navigate what comes next, the community is coming together to care for one another. At the heart of this effort is Pastor Wayne, whose love for the local children helped create a place where families can find a warm meal and hope in a season of uncertainty. Mercy Chefs is honored to support this community, serving nutritious meals that provide relief and a moment to breathe.

A Moment of Normalcy with a Hot Meal
Our team on the ground served our first hot meals to families and children impacted by the wildfires in the Nine Mile Falls area. This included hearty taco lunches that met students’ dietary needs before the start of a new school year. We also served a local firehouse as a small thank-you to the firefighters who continue working to contain the fires.
We’re grateful for local churches, students, and community members who are joining us to serve their neighbors even amid their own loss. As this community begins to recover, your generosity allows us to provide a moment of normalcy for kids and families navigating the days ahead.
