Catastrophic flash flooding devastated communities across West Virginia after rivers and streams surged over their banks. Torrential rainfall inundated homes, businesses, schools, and critical infrastructure, while grocery store closures left families without reliable access to food. Emergency crews conducted dozens of water rescues as communities began recovery efforts.
Mercy Chefs served hot, chef-prepared meals in Weston to help meet immediate needs in the aftermath of the flooding. As our emergency meal response has concluded, we remain committed to supporting recovery through our Family Grocery Box program in the months ahead. Finding Places of Hope & Rest
Maria spent several days caring for her neighbors in the aftermath of the flood. Her parking lot became more than just a place to gather; it became a refuge where families could catch their breath and, thanks to Mercy Chefs, enjoy a hot, chef-prepared meal. She shared that people often came not because they were hungry, but because they needed a place where the weight of everything felt a little lighter, even if only for a moment.

A Flood Unlike Any Other
After flooding swept through Weston, Wilma found herself trapped in her home for two days without power or cell service. A longtime resident of more than 30 years, she said she had never seen flooding like this. Now, Wilma is facing the difficult task of cleaning up mold and replacing everything she lost, including the food in her refrigerator. Thanks to your support, Mercy Chefs has been able to provide her with hot, chef-prepared meals during this challenging time.

Today, Mercy Chefs served our first hot meals to families impacted by the devastating flooding in West Virginia. As our team arrived in Weston, we found communities facing overwhelming loss, homes and businesses damaged, neighborhoods buried in debris, and residents working tirelessly to clear out floodwaters. Again and again, we’ve heard the same words: “Thank you for being here.” These words remind us that a hot meal is more than food; it shows families they haven’t been forgotten.
