Mercy Chefs Serving Meals in West Virginia Following Flooding

PORTSMOUTH, VA — Mercy Chefs, a Virginia-based nonprofit specializing in disaster relief, has deployed to Weston, West Virginia, in response to catastrophic flooding.

The organization is serving hot, chef-prepared meals to families, first responders, and volunteers in Weston and surrounding areas. The organization is preparing and distributing meals at St. Patrick Church, located at 210 Center Avenue in Weston. First meals were distributed on Sunday, July 26. Meals will be served via drive-thru from 11:30 am through 5:00 pm in the coming days. The length of the response will be determined by community need. 

Mercy Chefs’ response is being supported by team members based in West Virginia, whose local knowledge and commitment are helping the organization serve their neighbors during this time of need. 

“Everything we do comes back to serving people a hot meal with compassion,” said Gary LeBlanc, founder and CEO of Mercy Chefs. “Our ability to respond to multiple disasters at the same time means we can support both large-scale emergencies and smaller communities that deserve the same level of care and compassion.” 

Mercy Chefs was founded 20 years ago in the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina, when LeBlanc volunteered in New Orleans and was troubled by the lack of safe, high-quality food available to disaster victims. Today, the organization has provided more than 38 million restaurant-quality meals across the country and around the world.
