Iowa Flooding Response
Flood Relief Updates
Following weeks of heavy rain in June 2024, flooding severely impacted northwest Iowa, causing a complete disruption of water and electricity services. Nearly 2,000 properties were submerged and damaged, forcing residents to evacuate their homes and seek shelter. Iowa Governor Kim Reynolds issued a disaster declaration for Sioux County. The situation created an immediate and urgent need for food service to support victims and rescue teams.
In response, Mercy Chefs deployed to Rock Valley to serve hot, chef-prepared meals to displaced families grappling with the aftermath of the flooding. We initiated food operations at Faith Reformed Church.
Thank you for joining us in prayer for those who lost their homes and began the long road to recovery. Stay up-to-date on our ongoing work by following us on Facebook and Instagram (@MercyChefs).

From Iowa to Texas: Renae's Story
On July 4, 2025, flash flooding devastated Kerr County—displacing families, claiming lives, and causing widespread damage. Having experienced the heartbreak of Iowa’s floods just a year earlier and the comfort of a Mercy Chefs meal, Renae felt called to give back by volunteering with us in Texas.
She is one of many who have traveled from across the U.S. to serve with us. Volunteers are the backbone of what we do, and we’re deeply grateful for each one who stands beside communities in their hardest moments.

No Town Too Small: One Year Since Our Response
A year since our response to historic flooding in Rock Valley, we’re reminded of the strength and spirit that small towns show in the face of disaster. When Rock Valley’s Deputy Clerk, Ashley, reached out for help, she wasn’t sure if a town of just 4,000 people would qualify. But our Founder, Chef Gary LeBlanc, assured her, “If we’re feeding 10 people, it’s worth it.”
In the end, we served more than 45,000 hot and grocery meals to families in Rock Valley and surrounding communities. No town is too small. Every person matters. Thank you for helping us bring hope to those recovering after the storm.
