Mercy Chefs Deploys to Feed Victims Hit by Deadly Texas Floods

PORTSMOUTH, VA — Mercy Chefs, a Virginia-based nonprofit known for providing hot, chef-prepared meals in times of disaster, is on the ground in Kerr County serving flood victims, first responders, and volunteers following catastrophic flash flooding.

The team began meal service on Saturday, July 5, by feeding first responders and search and rescue crews. On July 6, Mercy Chefs began serving lunch and dinner daily to the public at Citywest Church. Meal times are 11:00 am–1:00 pm for lunch and 4:00–6:00 pm for dinner.

“The devastation unfolding in Kerr County is truly heartbreaking. Our prayers are with the families who have lost loved ones and with those still waiting for word on the missing,” said Gary LeBlanc, Mercy Chefs Founder and CEO. “Flash flooding has overwhelmed communities across Central Texas. Our team is on the ground providing hot meals and comfort to those who are suffering.”

This deployment hits especially close to home for Mercy Chefs. Several team members live and operate their culinary businesses in the affected region, including Wimberley, TX. A number of local chefs are also volunteering on-site with Mercy Chefs this week.

“This is one of the many reasons why Mercy Chefs is able to get meals out so quickly to people in need,” added LeBlanc. “Our team quickly mobilized and started cooking. Another reason is our chefs’ incredible heart to serve their neighbors.”
