Ingredients
- 1 gallon of apple cider
- ¼ cup of brown sugar or maple syrup
- 2 cinnamon sticks
- 1 pinch of ground nutmeg
- 20 whole cloves
- 1½ tsp of ground allspice
- 1 orange, zested and juiced
- 1 apple thinly sliced with seeds removed (optional)
Step 1:
In a large pot, heat the apple cider over medium-high until hot, but not boiling. Reduce heat to low.
Step 2:
Add brown sugar or maple syrup, cinnamon stick, nutmeg, cloves, allspice (or all these ingredients can be replaced with our Mercy Chefs Apple Cider Spice), and orange zest and juice. Stir to combine.
Step 3:
Add the sliced apple, if desired.
Step 4:
Let the spices blend for 30–60 minutes over low heat.
Step 5:
Refrigerate leftover cider for up to a week.
